2. Client-Side Processing Architecture
Unlike traditional web applications that upload user input to a centralized database, Graph Paper Virtual operates on an in-browser execution model:
- Your Drawings & Coordinates: All strokes, lines, shapes, text annotations, and mathematical plots are processed exclusively by your computer or mobile device's local memory and GPU via the HTML5 Canvas API.
- Zero Server Uploads: When you draw or erase on the canvas, no image data or vector coordinate packets are transmitted to our servers or any third-party clouds.
- File Exports: When you export to PNG, SVG, or PDF, or print your grid, the conversion happens directly inside your web browser. The exported files are saved directly to your local file system.
3. Information We Collect and Store
We purposefully minimize data collection to the absolute technical minimum:
A. Local Browser Storage (localStorage)
To provide a continuous user experience across browser sessions, we save non-identifying preferences in your browser's localStorage. This includes:
- Your selected color theme (Light / Dark mode)
- Your grid configuration (Quad, Dot Matrix, Isometric, or Engineering mm)
- Grid spacing, line color, and background preset preferences
- Canvas autosave recovery state (stored only locally on your machine)
You can wipe this data at any time by clearing your browser cache and site cookies.
B. Server & CDN Technical Telemetry
Like any standard internet website, our hosting and content delivery network (CDN) providers automatically receive standard request headers when your browser requests web assets. This includes:
