Privacy Policy

Last Updated: September 20, 2026 · Effective Date: September 20, 2026

🛡️ Summary in Plain English

Graph Paper Virtual is designed with a privacy-first, client-side architecture. We do not require accounts, we do not store your sketches or math plots on any remote server, and we do not sell your personal data. Everything you draw exists exclusively in your browser session.

1. Introduction

Welcome to Graph Paper Virtual ("we," "our," or "us"), available at https://graphpapervirtual.com. We believe that privacy is a fundamental human right, especially for tools used by students, educators, and technical professionals.

This Privacy Policy explains how our service operates, what minimal technical data is handled when you visit the site, and why your creative drawings and calculations remain strictly private and under your control.

2. Client-Side Processing Architecture

Unlike traditional web applications that upload user input to a centralized database, Graph Paper Virtual operates on an in-browser execution model:

  • Your Drawings & Coordinates: All strokes, lines, shapes, text annotations, and mathematical plots are processed exclusively by your computer or mobile device's local memory and GPU via the HTML5 Canvas API.
  • Zero Server Uploads: When you draw or erase on the canvas, no image data or vector coordinate packets are transmitted to our servers or any third-party clouds.
  • File Exports: When you export to PNG, SVG, or PDF, or print your grid, the conversion happens directly inside your web browser. The exported files are saved directly to your local file system.

3. Information We Collect and Store

We purposefully minimize data collection to the absolute technical minimum:

A. Local Browser Storage (localStorage)

To provide a continuous user experience across browser sessions, we save non-identifying preferences in your browser's localStorage. This includes:

  • Your selected color theme (Light / Dark mode)
  • Your grid configuration (Quad, Dot Matrix, Isometric, or Engineering mm)
  • Grid spacing, line color, and background preset preferences
  • Canvas autosave recovery state (stored only locally on your machine)

You can wipe this data at any time by clearing your browser cache and site cookies.

B. Server & CDN Technical Telemetry

Like any standard internet website, our hosting and content delivery network (CDN) providers automatically receive standard request headers when your browser requests web assets. This includes:

  • Internet Protocol (IP) address
  • Browser type, version, and operating system
  • Referring website URL and requested resource path
  • Date and time of server requests

These access logs are maintained transiently for firewall defense, DDoS mitigation, and server reliability. They are never linked to your identity or drawings.

4. Cookies and Advertising Trackers

Graph Paper Virtual does not use invasive third-party cross-site tracking cookies, fingerprinting scripts, or behavioral advertising trackers. We do not sell, rent, or monetize your personal data with data brokers.

5. Children’s Privacy (COPPA & FERPA Compliance)

Graph Paper Virtual is widely utilized in K-12 primary and secondary schools, high school math classes, and university STEM laboratories.

Because we do not require account registration, do not request email addresses, and do not collect personal information from visitors, our platform is fully compliant with the United States Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA), as well as GDPR-K requirements in the European Union.

6. Your Rights Under GDPR & CCPA/CPRA

Under global privacy frameworks such as the European Union General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the California Consumer Privacy Act (CCPA/CPRA), users have rights regarding their data:

  • Right to Know / Access: You can request details about any personal information processed.
  • Right to Deletion: Because all canvas drawings and settings reside on your device, you have immediate control: clearing your browser data permanently deletes all stored preferences.
  • Right to Non-Discrimination: You enjoy full, unhindered access to all features without discrimination or gated paywalls.

7. Updates to this Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically to reflect technological improvements or regulatory updates. Any changes will be posted directly to this URL with an updated revision date.
